About The Borderlands Group
The Borderlands Group is a defence advisory and engineering company. We partner with international defense technology companies to help them build, deploy, test, and scale their products in real operational environments.
Our work connects international defence innovators with Ukraine’s engineering talent, operational expertise, and real-world product feedback. Depending on the project, we support our partners with engineering, field operations, technical recruitment, product testing, and building local capabilities in Ukraine.
One of our international defence-tech clients — an early-stage European company developing autonomous technology for airspace security — is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop the mechanical systems behind its sensor, interception, and enclosure hardware — from concept through field-ready hardware.
The team is small and high-output, with strong engineering and business backgrounds, united by a mission to make modern airspace safer.
- Design mechanical structures and enclosures for sensor, interception, and other hardware components
- Develop and iterate on CAD models and technical drawings for new and existing hardware
- Select materials and manufacturing processes suited for rugged, weather-resistant, field-deployed hardware
- Apply design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) principles, working closely with production and procurement
- Support prototyping, testing, and iteration based on flight-test and field deployment feedback
- Collaborate with electronics, RF, and flight-test engineers to integrate mechanical designs into the full system
- Strong background in mechanical design and CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape)
- Experience designing for manufacturability and for rugged, field-deployable hardware
- Understanding of materials selection for outdoor and weatherproof applications
- Comfortable working across the full hardware lifecycle, from concept to production
- Conversational English
- Experience with drone, robotics, or aerospace mechanical design
- Experience with environmental hardening (IP-rating, MIL-STD-810 or similar standards)
- Background in defense or other high-reliability hardware industries
